People Power Party presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo announced on May 6 that he will meet independent presidential hopeful Han Duck-soo at 6 p.m. on May 7 for a one-on-one meeting, aiming to discuss a potential conservative unification.
In a statement released through his campaign, Kim said, “I have agreed to meet Candidate Han alone at 18:00 tomorrow. The meeting was proposed by Han himself. There should be no further unnecessary controversy regarding unification.” The meeting location will be disclosed at the scheduled time.
Kim also invoked his authority as the party’s presidential nominee to override internal procedures, criticizing the party leadership’s plan to conduct a poll among all members regarding the proposed unification. “The poll scheduled for tomorrow is unnecessary and undermines party unity. It must be immediately halted,” he said.
He added, “From this moment forward, unification discussions will be led entirely by the presidential candidate. The party leadership must stop interfering and cease all related activities.”
Kim urged the party to shift its focus toward the central campaign headquarters and support the candidate fully in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, People Power Party floor leader Kweon Seong-dong expressed expectations that the two candidates would move swiftly. “I hope a clear roadmap will be presented soon to achieve unification before the official candidate registration deadline,” he said.
