Lee Jae-myung was confirmed as the final presidential candidate of the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) on April 27 after winning the party’s primary. Lee secured first place with 89.77 percent of the final vote, followed by Kim Dong-yeon with 6.87 percent and Kim Kyung-soo with 3.36 percent.
Lee was officially nominated by combining the results from the Seoul, capital region, Gangwon, and Jeju primary votes during a joint rally held by the Democratic Party that day. Voter turnout was recorded at 69.19 percent among national delegates, 60.33 percent among party members with voting rights, and 67.23 percent among overseas voters.
Declaring his victory, Lee said, "Kim Dong-yeon's vision is Lee Jae-myung's vision, and Kim Kyung-soo's dream is Lee Jae-myung's dream," pledging to lead a strong, unified Democratic Party to victory.
