Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is scheduled to step down from his position on April 9 to focus on his presidential campaign. On April 8, political sources indicated that Lee plans to resign after presiding over the Supreme Council meeting in the morning, aiming to prepare for the presidential election set for June 3. Previously, Lee had refrained from commenting on his candidacy following the impeachment ruling of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

After his resignation, Lee intends to finalize appointments for his campaign team. It is reported that Representative Yoon Ho-jung has been designated as the campaign chair, with Representative Kang Hoon-sik as the general manager. By appointing figures with less pronounced factional ties rather than close associates, Lee appears to be addressing criticisms of a one-man dominance within the party.

Lee plans to officially announce his candidacy once the campaign team is in place. He is considering various venues for the announcement, including the National Assembly.
