Actress Kim Sae-ron has passed away on February 16 at the age of 24.

She was found dead at her home, a police official with knowledge of the case said Sunday. The official said that police are investigating the cause of death, but additional details were not provided.

Kim made her debut in the entertainment industry at the age of nine, starring in the 2009 film A Brand New Life. In this film, produced by the renowned director Lee Chang-dong, known for Peppermint Candy and Secret Sunshine, Kim played the role of Jin-hee, a girl abandoned by her father and left in an orphanage. Her delicate and nuanced performance drew significant attention, which is rare for a child actress.

The works that brought her widespread recognition were The Man from Nowhere in 2010 and Neighbors in 2012. In The Man from Nowhere, she played the role of So-mi, a girl who loses her mother to a crime organization and is kidnapped herself. In Neighbors, she played dual roles as a girl victimized by a serial killer and a student who becomes a target, solidifying her status as a child star.

Kim then attempted to transition into an adult actress with roles in films such as A Girl at My Door and Manshin, and TV dramas like The Queen's Classroom and Snowy Road. However, her career was halted in May 2022 following a drunk driving incident.
