Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump's stance slamming calls to slow down artificial intelligence development as a hoax, The New York Times reported on the 14th (local time).

Huang paused his remarks to take a phone call from Trump while discussing AI during a panel session at the All-In Summit, a conference held in Los Angeles, California, and spoke with him on speakerphone.

During the roughly five-minute call, Trump pushed back against recent concerns over the perils of rapid AI advancement, calling them a hoax and asserting that robots taking over the world is not going to happen.

He then unleashed comments echoing the anti-regulation message he had posted on social media earlier that day.

Addressing proponents of pacing AI development, Trump said they are playing into the hands of those who do not want to see AI progress, adding that they could be politicians or linked to China.

Huang agreed, saying Trump had cut to the core of the issue. He pointed out that AI research labs like Anthropic and OpenAI can slow their own pace without government intervention, noting that pauses or slowing down are things companies can do voluntarily whenever they feel out of control.

Trump posted several AI-related messages on social media that day, voicing opposition to government interference in the industry.

He stressed that while people need to be somewhat careful and proceed deliberately with what needs to be done, that does not mean a particular industry should be brought to a halt.

Huang has also remained skeptical of AI safety concerns, repeatedly arguing that such fears are detached from reality.

Trump's remarks came as Tesla CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said a day earlier that the industry should slow AI development and tighten government regulation.
