President Yoon Suk-yeol will make an official state visit to the Czech Republic from Sept. 12 to 22.
On the trip, President Yoon will support Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to win the Dukovany nuclear power plant project, while actively engaging in sales diplomacy so that the two countries can establish a “nuclear energy alliance.”
“President Yoon will convey the strong willingness of Team Korea to cooperate with the Czech Republic to successfully complete the nuclear power plant project through the official visit,” Kim Tae-hyo, first deputy director of National Security Office (NSO), said during a briefing at the presidential office on Thursday.
It is the first visit by a South Korean leader to the Czech Republic in nine years.
Back on July 17, KHNP was selected as the preferred bidder for the construction of two Czech Dukavany nuclear power plants worth 24 trillion on.
“Yoon’s visit to Prague will allow South Korea and the Czech Republic to establish a nuclear energy alliance,” Kim said. “The visit could pave the way for a global nuclear alliance partnership between the South and the U.S. in the international nuclear market.”
On the first day of the visit, Yoon will hold a one-on-one summit with Czech President Petr Pavel. The following day, Yoon will participate in a Korea-Czech Business Forum alongside President Pavel. He is also scheduled to visit a nuclear power facility in the country and sign several MOUs to institutionalize cooperation across sectors between the two countries.
Accompanying him is an economic delegation of approximately 50-60 companies. The business delegation includes conglomerate moguls like Doosan Chairman Park Jeong-won, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.
