A new poll on the suitability of the next ruling party leader shows Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo is ahead of Rep. Kim Gi-hyeon by 6.7 percentage points within the margin of error in the bilateral match. However, Rep. Kim won 57.8 percent, 24.3 percentage points ahead of Ahn with 33.5 percent in the bilateral match among active supporters who think that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration is doing very well.
According to the poll conducted on 2,312 adults by R&Search on Friday-Saturday, the correlation between ‘national approval rating’ and ‘appropriate chairman of the People Power Party (PPP)’ was very high. Support for Ahn was higher than Kim in the bilateral match among general PPP supporters, however Kim beat Ahn among active supporters.
In the case of a multilateral match, Kim won 47.6 percent of the votes among active supporter group, 19.9 percentage points ahead of Ahn with 27.7 percent. Cheon Ha-ram, chairman of the party council of Jeonnam Suncheon-gap, who was placed third among general PPP supporters fell to the bottom among active supporters with 1.3 percent. Former prime minister Hwang Kyo-ahn came in third with 7.3 percent, followed by Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun, attorney Kang Sin-eop, and Rep. Cho Kyung-tae at 4.7 percent, 3.5 percent, and 1.7 percent. Lawyer Kang was eliminated from the preliminary screening of the party’s chairman on Sunday and failed to advance to the preliminary race.
Among general supporters who evaluated the national administration negatively, Ahn won 45.2 percent of support, far ahead of Kim with 5.2 percent. Chun came second with 26.4 percent. Rep. Yoon, former PM Hwang and Rep. Cho followed.
In the ‘Kim-Ahn’ bilateral match for the entire support base, Ahn won 47.4 percent outnumbering Kim with 40.7 percent by 6.7 percentage point within the margin of error. This is the result of a 1.3 percentage point increase of gap compared to the previous survey conducted in the end of January. Rep. Ahn was ahead of Kim in all age groups, but Kim won 45.9 percent of support among female supporters, higher than Ahn with 40.9 percent. Among men, Ahn was ahead of Kim.
In the ‘Kim-Ahn’ bilateral match, 22 percent of Chun’s supporters said they would support Kim and 50.2 percent said they would support Ahn. Among the supporters of Hwang, another candidate for the PPP leadership race, 30.5 percent ruled in favor of Kim and 32 percent said they would support Ahn. Among Yoon’s supporters, 28.2 percent said they would support Kim and 51.7 percent picked Ahn.
In the bilateral match among active supporters who responded that the government conducted state affairs “very well”, Kim won 57.8 percent of support, 24.3 points ahead of Ahn with 33.5 percent.
Among respondents who responded that the government conducted state affairs “very badly”, Ahn received 73.4 percent of support and Kim 14.6 percent.
