South Korea and Mongolia are planning to further enhance cooperation in boosting startups, the key task of the Moon administration’s innovation-led growth policy.

In particular, cooperation projects of young entrepreneurs of South Korea and Mongolia are expected to strengthen as global daily newspaper AsiaToday will actively support cooperation in establishing startups for young people in both countries.

AsiaToday president Woo Jong-soon held a two-hour meeting with Namuun Battulga, chairman of Young Entrepreneurs Council of Mongolia, at the AsiaToday headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on June 18.

As the eldest daughter of Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga, Namuun is acting as the first lady of Mongolia.

She visited South Korea to seek ways for strategic cooperation in order to promote exchanges between young entrepreneurs in the two nations and boost startups in Mongolia.

“In order to boost startups and promote business opportunities for Mongolian youth, I visited South Korea, which is one of the leading nations in this sector,” chairman Namuun said at the talks. She also called for AsiaToday’s role as a practical business bridge between the two countries.

“We are happy to become a stepping stone for numerous business exchanges in the future, especially between young people in Mongolia and South Korea,” Woo responded.

Namuun is expected to visit related organizations to discuss several issues, such as establishing South Korean startup center and business promotion agency in Mongolia, enhancing cooperation between the two countries to boost startups, developing joint venture investment fund, and opening the 2nd Korea-Mongolia startup summit in Seoul.

“Vitalizing youth startups is paramount in order for Mongolia to create various kinds of jobs using sufficient resources and to secure sustainable growth engines beyond its industrial structure focused on mineral resource development,” Namuun said. “It is necessary for talented young entrepreneurs in South Korea to actively exchange views with those in Mongolia.”

She also picked four key areas of cooperation among young entrepreneurs in the two countries - agriculture and farming, information and communication technology (ICT), tourism and culture, and logistics and distribution.
