Taihan Cable & Solution has secured another contract to build a 380-kilovolt (kV) extra-high-voltage power grid in Germany, pushing its new orders in Europe this year above 500 billion won. Amid growing investment in power infrastructure across Europe, the company is accelerating its expansion into the local market through turnkey projects that cover not only the supply of extra-high-voltage cables but also design and construction.

On Oct. 27, Taihan Cable & Solution announced that its Netherlands subsidiary had won a turnkey contract for a 380kV extra-high-voltage power grid project in Germany.

Under the project structure, the Netherlands subsidiary will oversee the entire project, including local engineering and construction, while Taihan's headquarters will manufacture and supply key materials such as extra-high-voltage cables and cable accessories.

Taihan's headquarters disclosed on the same day that it had signed a supply contract worth approximately 115 billion won with its Netherlands subsidiary. This amount covers the materials supplied by the headquarters, while the total project value, including local design and construction, exceeds 115 billion won. However, the company did not disclose the total contract value or the client due to a confidentiality agreement.

The project involves building a 380kV power grid, the highest voltage level used in Germany's underground alternating-current power networks. Taihan previously secured two consecutive contracts for 380kV extra-high-voltage power grid projects in Germany in January 2023. The latest contract will allow the company to build on its experience in executing projects in the local market.

Taihan has secured more than 500 billion won in new orders this year across European markets, including Germany, Denmark and the United Kingdom. With Europe expanding investment in extra-high-voltage power grids to accommodate the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) and the growing number of data centers, the company expects more business opportunities in the sector.

Taihan entered the European market in 2017 by establishing a branch office in the United Kingdom. In 2019, it expanded its organization into a European headquarters and established a Netherlands subsidiary. The company currently operates five branch offices and one subsidiary in Europe.

A Taihan official said, "We will strengthen cooperation with European customers and partners and enhance our local business capabilities," adding, "Building on the trust we have earned from customers in extra-high-voltage power grid projects, we will also expand opportunities to secure new orders in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission and submarine cables."
