LG Chem is seeking to expand its presence in Europe's future mobility materials market by building on its cooperation with Volkswagen Group. The company aims to create more business opportunities with global automakers by offering high-value-added materials for vehicle lightweighting, battery safety and eco-friendly interior and exterior components.
LG Chem announced on Oct. 27 that it is participating in the International Suppliers Fair (IZB 2026), which runs through Oct. 29 in Wolfsburg, Germany. The company is the only South Korean materials manufacturer participating this year and is making its debut at the exhibition at the invitation of Volkswagen Group.
IZB is a global automotive parts and materials exhibition that originated as a supplier fair for Volkswagen Group. This year's event is expected to attract approximately 850 companies from 33 countries and more than 40,000 visitors.
LG Chem signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Volkswagen Group in September to jointly develop future mobility materials. Through its participation in the exhibition, the company plans to build on their existing cooperation and expand its connections with European automakers.
At the exhibition, LG Chem is showcasing materials that can replace metal components to reduce vehicle weight, paint-free materials that eliminate the need for a separate painting process, and interior and exterior materials made with recycled feedstocks. The company is also introducing materials designed to delay battery thermal runaway and switchable glazing film (SGF) that controls the transparency of vehicle windows.
In particular, LG Chem is holding separate sessions for executives from major customers to explain ways to use eco-friendly materials and improve cost competitiveness. It also plans to introduce the functions and characteristics of its materials through product-specific QR codes linked to artificial intelligence (AI) voice guides.
"This exhibition represents an important opportunity to further strengthen our cooperation with global customers, including Volkswagen Group, in future mobility materials," said Kim Sang-min, executive vice president and head of LG Chem's Petrochemicals Company. "We will lead innovation in high-value-added mobility solutions based on our differentiated material solutions and technological capabilities."
