Hyundai E&C continues its push into the European nuclear power market by taking part in front-end engineering design (FEED) for a new large-scale nuclear power plant project in the Netherlands.

Hyundai E&C announced on the 8th that it signed a Phase 1 front-end engineering design (FEED 1) contract on the 7th with Westinghouse for the Dutch new large-scale nuclear power plant construction project.

This contract forms part of the FEED 1 awarded by the Nuclear Energy Organization Netherlands (NEO NL) to Westinghouse. Participating as a partner to Westinghouse, Hyundai E&C will conduct front-end engineering design and project evaluations for two large-scale reactors utilizing the AP1000 design from Westinghouse of the U.S.

Hyundai E&C will be responsible for technical reviews of candidate sites, formulating master plans, and establishing project execution strategies. Working alongside Westinghouse, it also plans to examine local laws, licensing requirements, and technical standards, while assessing key risks and developing localization strategies.

NEO NL is a state-owned entity established by the Dutch government to implement new nuclear power projects. The Dutch government is pursuing new nuclear buildouts to secure stable power supplies and achieve carbon neutrality, and is currently conducting technical and environmental evaluations of candidate sites.

Westinghouse was selected as one of the final technology candidates for the Dutch new nuclear project, and will proceed with subsequent design work reflecting site conditions and licensing requirements in tandem with Hyundai E&C.

Hyundai E&C is also expanding local cooperation to penetrate the Dutch nuclear power market. Last June, it co-hosted the "Netherlands Suppliers Symposium" with Westinghouse to discuss cooperation plans with the Dutch government, industry representatives, and nuclear-related enterprises.

A Hyundai E&C official noted, "Through this participation in FEED 1, we expect to contribute to the successful execution of the new Dutch nuclear project and position ourselves as a competitive partner in subsequent phases as well," adding, "Based on our design and construction capabilities accumulated in the large-scale nuclear reactor sector, we will enhance project execution and continue expanding new business opportunities across the European nuclear market."
