The U.S. and Iran reportedly held talks at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the 22nd local time during the UN General Assembly.

According to CNN and other outlets, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters following a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham in New York that day, "Iran wants to talk to us, and we talked today".

Speaking after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later that day, Trump also said that U.S. and Iranian delegations met for about three hours and that the discussions "went very well".

Regarding the talks with Iran, President Trump underscored, "It was a very productive meeting. Iran has two choices: complete destruction or the potential to be great. Iran can be a great nation".

He added, "Further meetings are scheduled in the near future. Clearly, it is also beneficial for Iran to reach a deal".

Iran's state-run broadcaster IRIB reported that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner attended as part of the U.S. delegation, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi represented Iran.

Special Envoy Witkoff noted that delegations from both nations held extensive talks through mediators.

Earlier, President Trump said during his address to the UN General Assembly that day, "I will have a big decision to make: whether to reach a deal with Iran or eliminate it," adding, "I expect we can reach a deal with Iran after the November midterm elections".

Meanwhile, President Trump said he believes Ukraine and Russia will reach an agreement, though he did not mention specific details.

President Zelenskyy separately expressed readiness to take part in trilateral talks with Russia and the U.S.
