The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) conducted promotional campaigns in Mongolia to attract medical tourists tailored to the country's key industries.
The KTO announced on the 7th that it held the "2026 Korea Medical Tourism Roadshow in Mongolia" in Ulaanbaatar and Dalanzadgad. The organization reported that the event, held from the 4th to the 6th, recorded an estimated 19.6 billion won in sales across 803 consultations.
During the event, the KTO met with the Mongolian National Mining Association and proposed essential health checkup and specialized wellness programs tailored for workers. It also discussed the introduction of medical tourism packages with the Chinggis Khaan Sovereign Wealth Fund and its 17 affiliated mining companies. In addition, the organization met with five key local medical tourism agencies that will manage the actual operation of the customized programs, exploring ways to develop linked travel packages that include non-capital regions.
Cooperation with local financial groups was also strengthened to attract visitors to South Korea. The KTO signed a business agreement with Mandal Financial Group to revitalize medical tourism to South Korea. It also held discussions with the Trade and Development Bank of Mongolia (TDB) on expanding the application of "Burito Care," a medical expense discount program, and developing high-end wellness packages for VIP clients.
Both B2C and B2B marketing initiatives were pursued. Domestic medical institutions and medical tourism agencies held one-on-one in-depth consultations tailored to individual medical specialties for some 200 VIP clients of Mandal Financial Group, receiving an enthusiastic response. In Dalanzadgad, Omnogovi Province, the KTO hosted "Korea Medical Tourism Night in Dalanzadgad" and operated an on-site customized consultation and PR pavilion for roughly 800 employees and local residents.
Park Sung-hyuk, president of the KTO, said, "Taking this roadshow as an opportunity, we held back-to-back meetings with key local institutions and financial sectors, including the Mongolian National Mining Association, medical tourism agencies, TDB Bank, Chinggis Khaan Sovereign Wealth Fund, and Mandal Financial Group." He added, "The KTO is currently developing and operating a 'Healthy Miner' package in cooperation with leading local travel agencies. By further proposing the 'Happy Miner Campaign'—a multilateral health promotion program for Mongolian miners involving the KTO, travel agencies, the mining industry, and the financial sector, including card and insurance providers—we will dedicate our full efforts to attracting medical tourists among executives and employees in the Mongolian mining industry."
Since opening its Ulaanbaatar branch in 2017, the KTO has continued its efforts to pioneer the local medical tourism market and solidify its foundation for attracting visitors, including hiring a dedicated medical tourism manager in 2019. Last year, 35,586 medical tourists visited South Korea from Mongolia, accounting for 21.3% of all Mongolian visitors to the country.
