Two people died after a motorboat capsized in waters near Wangsan Marina on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon. According to the Incheon Coast Guard on the 5th, a report was received via 119 around 7:17 a.m. that day stating that a 1.6-ton motorboat was taking on water in the sea near Wangsan Marina in Eurwang-dong, Yeongjong-gu, Incheon.
At the time, the boat operator reportedly called for help, saying, "The waves are too rough, and the boat seems about to capsize."Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched five patrol vessels and an aircraft to the scene while requesting rescue assistance from nearby fishing vessels.
Although the motorboat capsized shortly after the distress call, a passing fishing vessel rescued all nine people on board just 12 minutes later, around 7:29 a.m.
At the time of the accident, a total of nine people were aboard the motorboat, including eight men in their 40s to 60s and one man presumed to be in his 70s. Among them, two individuals—a man in his 40s and the man presumed to be in his 70s—were transported to a hospital by 119 emergency medical services in a state of cardiac arrest with no breathing or pulse, but ultimately died. The remaining seven were found to have no significant health concerns.
The Coast Guard believes they met with the accident after departing Wangsan Marina for leisure activities and is currently investigating the precise cause of the incident.
