Gaon Cable announced on the 2nd that it is expanding the application of its low-friction distribution cables to artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs), stepping up efforts to target the AI power infrastructure market.
By improving outer sheath materials, low-friction cables reduce installation friction by approximately 30% compared to conventional products, extending installation distances by up to 45% while reducing required labor and construction costs.
Although busduct systems are increasingly adopted to deliver large-capacity power supplies in AIDCs, power distribution cables are also used in certain sections depending on design and construction conditions. The company anticipates that low-friction cables will enhance both constructability and cost efficiency in building AIDC power infrastructure.
Following its supply of low-friction cables to semiconductor manufacturing plants in North America last year, Gaon Cable has expanded their use to AIDCs. The company has strengthened its product portfolio by applying its semiconductor plant-proven low-friction technology to AIDCs as well.
Globally, low-friction power distribution cables are manufactured and supplied by only a small number of companies in North America and Europe, and Gaon Cable has completed patent registrations for the core material technology.
Leveraging the technological competitiveness of LS Cable & System and the local business capabilities of its U.S. subsidiary LSCUS, Gaon Cable has been supplying busducts for AIDCs to U.S. Big Tech firms and AI cloud service providers.
In addition, the company has supplied low-voltage (LV) cables to power generation facilities for U.S. Big Tech AIDCs, while LSCUS is expanding supplies of medium-voltage (MV) cables linking substations to AIDC campuses. Through these efforts, the company is broadening its AIDC power infrastructure lineup from busducts to LV and MV cables.
Jeong Hyun, CEO of Gaon Cable, said, "Construction efficiency is becoming increasingly crucial in large-scale industrial facilities, including AI data centers, semiconductor plants, and battery factories," adding, "We will continue expanding into the global market on the back of differentiated specialty distribution products, such as armor-clad flexible (ACF) cables, low-friction cables, and cable buses."
