A fire broke out at a logistics center building housing Coupang in Incheon, prompting about 3,000 employees and others to evacuate. No casualties were reported. This comes about a month after a massive fire erupted at a nearby Coupang logistics center last month.
According to fire authorities and related officials on August 19, a 119 emergency call was received around 5:28 p.m. reporting a fire on the first basement floor of a logistics center building in Wonchang-dong, Seohae-gu, Incheon.
Fire authorities dispatched 81 personnel and 33 pieces of equipment to the scene. They guided the evacuation of approximately 950 people, including employees, and searched all floors of the building. Separately, about 2,050 individuals were confirmed to have evacuated the building on their own.
By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished by on-site personnel. Smoke was emanating from an electrical distribution board in the mechanical room on the first basement level. No indications of secondary fires were found.
Fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, considering the possibility that it first ignited in a busduct, a high-capacity power distribution wiring system.
A total of six businesses occupy the building. It is understood that Coupang leases most of the premises to use as a logistics center.
Earlier, on July 18, a major fire occurred at another Incheon Coupang logistics center near this facility. That fire was completely extinguished 109 hours after it first broke out.
A fire official said, "Following a thorough inspection of every floor, we confirmed that there are no further signs of fire."
