Hanwha Power has entered the North American power generation market by supplying fuel gas compressors to a combined-cycle power plant in the United States for the first time. Along with the equipment supply, the company also secured a long-term service agreement, establishing a solid foothold for expanding its service business across North America.

On the 25th, Hanwha Power announced that it attended the completion and commercial operation commencement ceremony for the Trumbull Energy Center combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant held in Trumbull County, Ohio on the 24th (local time).

The Trumbull Energy Center is a 950-megawatt, high-efficiency combined-cycle power plant spearheaded and funded by Korea Southern Power (KOSPO). Built to replace an aging coal-fired power plant, it is slated to serve as a primary power source for the PJM interconnection network, the largest wholesale electricity market in the United States.

The ceremony was attended by officials from Korea Southern Power, Gemma Power Systems, Siemens Energy, and the Ohio state government, alongside the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in the United States and representatives from financial institutions.

Through this project, Hanwha Power secured its inaugural reference in the U.S. market by supplying three fuel gas compressors (FGC). The delivered equipment consists of integrally geared centrifugal gas compressors utilizing variable frequency drive (VFD) technology, specifically engineered to ensure stable operations even within the PJM region, which experiences high seasonal fluctuations in pipeline pressure.

In tandem with the equipment supply, Hanwha Power also signed a nine-year long-term service agreement (LTSA). The contract encompasses the supply of critical spare parts and three major maintenance overhauls, with field support and maintenance to be executed out of the company's Houston Service Center.

Hanwha Power intends to leverage this project as a catalyst to expand not only its equipment supply but also its service business throughout the North American market.

"Securing both the equipment supply and the long-term service agreement simultaneously is a direct result of the market recognizing our technological edge and operational capabilities," said Prakash Nair, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Hanwha Power. "We will continue to expand our presence in the U.S. power market through service businesses anchored by long-term partnerships."
