Boston Dynamics is investing $100 million in Massachusetts to construct a massive, advanced robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) center, moving to consolidate its infrastructure to secure a leading position in the global robotics market.

On the 24th (local time), Boston Dynamics announced a major expansion plan to transform a roughly 30,000-square-meter facility located in Waltham, Massachusetts, into an advanced robotics and AI center.

The total investment for this project stands at $100 million. Through this initiative, Boston Dynamics anticipates creating 1,250 new jobs by 2033.

The Massachusetts state government responded to Boston Dynamics' large-scale investment with substantial incentives.

The Massachusetts executive branch decided to support Boston Dynamics with $25 million in funding through the Economic Development Incentive Program (EDIP).

This grant will be utilized for remodeling expenses to upgrade the manufacturing processes for Boston Dynamics' Atlas, Spot, and Stretch robots, alongside funding workforce training and operating system development.

The newly established advanced center is located near Boston Dynamics' existing headquarters and will unify facilities and operations currently dispersed across three neighboring regions.

The center will foster synergy by housing advanced manufacturing facilities, AI research laboratories, specialized workforce training centers, and research and development (R&D) departments all under one roof.

Boston Dynamics plans to begin full-scale remodeling and construction work immediately, with a phased move-in into the new facility starting in the middle of next year.

The project is being executed in partnership with BXP, a real estate investment trust that has owned the property since 1998.

This expansion also aligns with the upcoming launch of Boston Dynamics' next-generation lineup.

"Boston Dynamics has long called Waltham home, and this expansion demonstrates just how rapidly the robotics industry is growing," said Amanda McMaster, interim CEO. "This investment provides us with the space and resources to launch our third robotics platform within the next decade."
