CJ Logistics is scaling up its AI-powered safety monitoring system to prevent heat-related illnesses at its logistics sites during the scorching summer months. By linking AI CCTV cameras, which detect early signs of health abnormalities in workers in real time, with an integrated safety monitoring network, the company is strengthening its prevention-oriented safety management framework.
On June 22, CJ Logistics announced that it has expanded the number of automated monitoring sites managed by its EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Situation Room to 57 nationwide, while also increasing the deployment of AI CCTV cameras across its major hubs.
Currently operational across 22 logistics sites, the AI CCTV system analyzes workers' movements and behavioral patterns to detect abnormalities that could signal heat illness, such as sudden collapses or prolonged periods of immobility, in real time. Once a danger signal is flagged, instant alerts are dispatched to the EHS Situation Room and on-site managers, enabling rapid emergency responses.
To improve system accuracy, CJ Logistics advanced the technology by training the AI on logistics center working environments, foot traffic paths, and equipment data. This customization has significantly enhanced monitoring precision and on-site responsiveness.
Furthermore, bodycams have been introduced for all safety managers across all operational sites. Live footage from these bodycams is streamed directly to the EHS Situation Room, allowing for immediate situational assessment and enabling safety specialists to provide remote support when necessary.
Established in 2023 as a first for the domestic logistics industry, the EHS Situation Room serves as an integrated safety control center. It monitors the safety status of various facilities in real time under normal conditions and acts as a central command tower to manage responses when emergencies arise.
Moving forward, CJ Logistics plans to deploy more smart safety equipment, including AI CCTV cameras and bodycams, to build an integrated safety management infrastructure capable of preventing not only heat-related risks but also fires and various other industrial accidents.
"With the risk of heat-related illnesses surging during the peak summer months, it is absolutely critical that we do not overlook even the slightest sign of distress in our workers," said Kim Yu-seung, Head of Safety Management at CJ Logistics. "We will continue to advance a next-generation safety framework that shifts away from merely responding to incidents toward proactively identifying and preventing risk factors."
