LS Cable & System announced on June 17 that it has secured an ultra-high-voltage power grid project worth approximately 140 billion won from Singapore's energy utility authority. Under the contract, the company will supply 400kV and 230kV class cables.

Singapore has recently been expanding new investments centered on eco-friendly, high-efficiency data centers to meet the growing demand for AI and cloud computing. In tandem with this push, the city-state is accelerating the upgrading of its power grids and the expansion of its transmission infrastructure.

LS Cable & System, together with LS Eco Energy, has maintained the top market share in Singapore's ultra-high-voltage cable sector since 2010. Leveraging accumulated technological prowess and a wealth of project execution experience, the two entities have built deep trust as core suppliers for Singapore's national power grid construction.

LS Cable & System is the sole enterprise in South Korea to commercialize High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cables and ultra-high-voltage submarine cables. The company has solidly proven its technological competitiveness in the global power grid market, notably securing HVDC projects worth around 2.5 trillion won in Europe alone.

More recently, the cable maker has been broadening its business footprint into the AI data center power infrastructure market through collaborations with its affiliates. LSCUS, the U.S. subsidiary of Gaon Cable, has lately accelerated its foray into the North American market by clinching a series of long-term busduct supply contracts worth trillions of won with global big tech firms.

Company officials explained that a supercycle in power infrastructure, projected to span over 15 years, is entering full swing, driven by the replacement of aging power grids and rapid electrification fueled by the proliferation of AI. Consequently, a growing number of cases involve preemptive contracts for supply volumes several years into the future. The company's current order backlog stands at an all-time high, exceeding 7 trillion won.

"Competitiveness in the AI era ultimately stems from power infrastructure," said Kim Hyung-won, head of the Energy and Construction Business Division at LS Cable & System. "Backed by our comprehensive capabilities that span from AI data center transmission networks to internal power distribution solutions, LS Cable & System will continue to lead the global market."
