Korean Air will sponsor the U.S. Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) to foster global STEM talent.
According to Korean Air on the 5th, Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Hanjin Group, met with key figures including U.S. Senator Todd Young (Honorary Board Member of CEE) and CEE President Joann DiGennaro at the U.S. Congress on the morning of June 4 (local time) to sign a sponsorship agreement.
CEE is a U.S. nonprofit organization that supports education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for high school students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. It also provides opportunities to network with leading business figures.
Starting in June this year, Korean Air will serve as a sponsor of CEE for four years. The airline will award scholarships under its name to multinational high school students selected for CEE’s Research Science Institute program. In addition, Korean Air plans to support global STEM talent development by delivering lectures on aviation technology and R&D topics at MIT in Boston for separately selected high school students.
A Korean Air representative said, “As a global network carrier, we can contribute to nurturing talent in aviation and other STEM fields. We plan to provide outstanding students worldwide with opportunities to connect with Korean Air and continuously return corporate profits to society.”
