Anthropic said Tuesday it has appointed Choi Ki-young as its Korea country manager ahead of the opening of its Seoul office, marking a major step in the company’s expansion into the Korean market.

The U.S.-based artificial intelligence research company, best known for developing the AI model Claude, said its senior executives are expected to visit Seoul within the next few weeks to officially establish the office and meet with key local customers.

According to Anthropic, South Korea is one of the most active markets globally for Claude adoption. The company said in March that Claude usage in Korea was 3.5 times higher than expected relative to the country’s population size, particularly in technology and creative industries.

As part of its local expansion strategy, Anthropic selected Choi, a veteran technology executive with more than 30 years of experience leading tech businesses across Korea and the Asia-Pacific region.

Before joining Anthropic, Choi served as country manager of Snowflake Korea. He previously led Korean operations for major global technology firms including Google Cloud, Adobe, Autodesk and Microsoft, working closely with Korean enterprises on cloud computing and AI adoption initiatives.

“South Korea is one of the world’s most advanced AI markets in terms of hardware innovation, developer ecosystems and enterprise AI adoption,” Choi said. “Korean companies combine strong technical capabilities with a commitment to responsible AI, which aligns closely with Anthropic’s values.”

He added, “That is why I joined Anthropic, and I look forward to growing the company’s business in Korea from a long-term perspective.”

Choi is expected to lead localized business strategies reflecting how Claude is used in the Korean market while building partnerships with enterprises, developers and researchers.

Several Korean companies are already actively adopting Claude. Legal tech startup Law&Company has developed an AI legal assistant powered by Claude, helping lawyers reduce research and document preparation time while maintaining high accuracy in sensitive legal work.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom has implemented a customized AI customer service model using Claude to improve service quality and support customer service teams.

Chris Ciauri, head of Anthropic International, said, “South Korea is one of the markets with the highest interest in Claude globally, and few people understand the Korean technology ecosystem as deeply as Choi Ki-young. He will lead local partnerships and build the Seoul office team to help Korean companies integrate Claude into practical business operations.”
