HD Hyundai is expanding its cooperation with Ukraine from equipment support to broader infrastructure restoration projects as reconstruction demand grows amid the ongoing war recovery process.
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment said on May 22 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region for cooperation on reconstruction projects.
The signing ceremony was held on May 21 at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Seongnam, and attended by Vitaliy Kim, Cho Young-chul and Moon Jae-young, along with other officials from both sides.
The latest agreement expands on an earlier partnership signed in 2023 that focused mainly on construction equipment donations and training programs.
Under the new framework, the two sides agreed to broaden cooperation to include equipment supply, the establishment of local training centers, maintenance and repair support, financing systems and energy infrastructure restoration.
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has continued discussions with Ukrainian government officials and local authorities on reconstruction cooperation since the outbreak of the war.
In 2023, then-First Vice Minister of Infrastructure Vasyl Shkurakov visited the company’s Ulsan campus, leading to continued discussions on reconstruction support. Later that year, HD Hyundai donated five major pieces of equipment, including excavators and forklifts, to the Mykolaiv regional government.
The company said the equipment has since been used in emergency recovery and infrastructure restoration operations.
Looking ahead, HD Hyundai plans to pursue a group-wide integrated reconstruction model combining its capabilities in both construction equipment and energy sectors.
The company said it aims to go beyond simply supplying machinery by supporting local infrastructure restoration and energy stabilization efforts as part of long-term reconstruction cooperation.
“We will build a cooperation system that can make practical contributions to Ukraine’s reconstruction beyond simple equipment supply,” Cho said. “Using our capabilities in construction equipment and energy, we will actively support local infrastructure recovery and stabilization efforts.”
