Samsung E&A has partnered with Korea Water Resources Corporation to accelerate expansion into domestic and overseas water infrastructure markets as the company strengthens water treatment operations as a future growth engine.
Samsung E&A said Tuesday that the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on May 18 to jointly develop and expand water-related businesses.
The signing ceremony was held at K-water’s Han River Basin Headquarters in Gwacheon, South Korea, and attended by Samsung E&A President Namkoong Hong and K-water President Yoon Seok-dae, along with other senior executives.
The companies said the agreement goes beyond a simple partnership by combining Samsung E&A’s engineering capabilities with K-water’s operational and maintenance expertise to create integrated business models for the global water industry.
The partnership aims to jointly develop projects across the water business value chain, including water treatment, recycling and desalination.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate on identifying new water business opportunities, sharing industry information and jointly developing and operating domestic water treatment and reuse projects.
They also plan to pursue overseas water infrastructure opportunities together, including commercialization and joint operation of global projects.
In addition, the partners will establish a regular consultative body to coordinate strategies for major projects and collaborate under a “One-Team” framework to secure new international contracts.
Earlier this year, Samsung E&A reorganized its business structure around three pillars — petrochemicals, advanced industries and New Energy — as part of a broader strategy to expand future-focused businesses.
The company identified water infrastructure as one of the core growth drivers within its New Energy division alongside liquefied natural gas and clean energy operations.
Samsung E&A has been focusing on strengthening its water business portfolio, covering sewage and wastewater treatment, water recycling and desalination technologies. The company has previously completed various water treatment projects in locations including Yongin and Bahrain and has secured advanced capabilities in wastewater reuse and ultra-pure water systems.
“Cooperation with K-water, which possesses world-class operational and maintenance expertise, represents the ideal partnership for expanding our water business,” Namkoong Hong said. “We will successfully carry out joint projects and accelerate our entry into the global water market.”
