Samsung Heavy Industries is continuing its strong order momentum in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping sector after securing another large-scale LNG carrier contract.
The company announced on May 18 that it had won an order worth 1.1242 trillion won for three LNG carriers from an Oceania-based shipping company.
With the latest deal, Samsung Heavy has secured orders worth a combined 2.3595 trillion won in May alone, including one LNG floating storage and regasification unit (LNG-FSRU) and five LNG carriers, totaling six LNG-related vessels.
In the LNG carrier segment, the company has already surpassed last year’s full-year order total of 11 vessels before the end of the first half of 2026.
A Samsung Heavy official said growing geopolitical instability in the Middle East has increased the importance of energy security and supply chain diversification.
“Based on our proven LNG carrier construction capabilities and quality competitiveness, we will continue responding actively to customer demand and maintain the current order momentum,” the official said.
Samsung Heavy’s cumulative orders for this year now stand at 22 vessels worth a total of $4.7 billion.
By vessel type, the orders include 12 LNG-related vessels, including one LNG-FSRU, two ethane carriers, two gas carriers, two container ships and four crude oil tankers.
