Hanwha Systems has become the first South Korean defense company to be included in a leading sustainability index for the Asia-Pacific region, marking a milestone in its ESG performance.
The company announced on May 6 that it had been selected for the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices (DJ BIC) Asia Pacific, published annually by S&P Global.
The DJ BIC index was introduced following a revamp of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) last year. It evaluates companies based on both financial performance and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
The DJ BIC Asia Pacific index assesses around 600 companies in the region, with only the top 20% in each industry qualifying for inclusion.
Hanwha Systems ranked first among aerospace and defense companies in the Asia-Pacific region, receiving high scores across all key categories, including human rights management, environmental policy, occupational health and safety, and supply chain management.
The company said its consistent efforts to strengthen corporate responsibility and transparent governance contributed to the recognition.
A company official stated, “This inclusion in the DJ BIC Asia index is meaningful as it demonstrates global recognition of Hanwha Systems’ leadership in sustainable management. We will continue to enhance our ESG practices to strengthen trust with global investors and stakeholders while accelerating our expansion into international markets.”
