Hyundai Motor has unveiled its China-specific electric vehicle, the IONIQ V, at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, signaling an aggressive push into the world’s largest EV market through local partnerships.
The model was revealed on April 24 at the Beijing International Exhibition Center and is the production version of the “Venus Concept” introduced earlier this month. It marks Hyundai’s first IONIQ-branded vehicle tailored specifically for Chinese consumers and is scheduled for launch in the second half of the year.
Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor, said, “China is the market that has it all—the fastest development speed, a strong battery supply chain, sophisticated EV consumers, and an advanced innovation ecosystem. For Hyundai, China is an essential and core market.”
Future-oriented design and spacious interior
The IONIQ V adopts Hyundai’s new design language, “The Origin,” emphasizing a bold and futuristic image tailored to Chinese lifestyles. It features a sporty hood line, edge lighting, a curved silhouette, and frameless doors.

The interior focuses on spaciousness and premium comfort, offering best-in-class cabin dimensions, including a 2,900mm wheelbase. It is equipped with a 27-inch 4K display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and a head-up display (HUD), along with Dolby Atmos sound, mood lighting, and powered air vents.
Collaboration with Chinese partners
The vehicle incorporates technologies optimized for China through partnerships with local companies. It is built on a platform jointly developed with Beijing Automotive Group and is powered by batteries from CATL, offering a driving range of over 600 kilometers per charge.
Hyundai also collaborated with autonomous driving firm Momenta to integrate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Expanding lineup and localized strategy
Starting with the IONIQ V, Hyundai plans to aggressively expand its EV lineup in China, including launching a new electrified SUV in the first half of next year. The company aims to introduce 20 new models, including EREV variants, over the next five years and achieve annual sales of 500,000 units by 2030.
To support this strategy, Hyundai and its joint venture partner Beijing Automotive Group previously invested 8 billion yuan into Beijing Hyundai. The company will also implement a “One Price” policy across sales channels to simplify purchasing and enhance customer trust.
Li Fenggang, General Manager of Beijing Hyundai, said the debut of the IONIQ V represents not only a new vehicle launch but also Hyundai’s strong commitment to the Chinese market and its future vision for global mobility.
Hyundai Motor is showcasing nine vehicles, including the IONIQ V, Venus Concept, and Earth Concept, along with two MobED mobility platforms at Auto China 2026.
