Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back met with Chinese Ambassador to Korea Dai Bing on April 15, calling on Beijing to play a constructive role in fostering peace on the Korean Peninsula.
During the meeting at the Ministry of National Defense, the two officials exchanged views on bilateral defense cooperation and broader relations between South Korea and China.
They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, recalling the agreement reached at the January summit between the two countries’ leaders to make this year a “new starting point for the full restoration of bilateral relations.”
Ahn highlighted the South Korean government’s efforts to rebuild trust between the two Koreas and resume dialogue with North Korea, emphasizing the importance of China’s support in advancing peace and coexistence on the peninsula.
Ambassador Dai expressed agreement on the importance of bilateral ties and defense cooperation, stressing the need for close communication between the two countries. He also conveyed appreciation for Seoul’s continued cooperation in repatriating the remains of Chinese soldiers.
A Defense Ministry official said both sides agreed to maintain close communication going forward to ensure the continued development of defense exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.
