A global supporters group for the Lotus Lantern Festival has officially begun its activities, aiming to promote the traditional Korean cultural event worldwide.

The Lotus Lantern Festival Preservation Committee, led by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, announced on April 8 that it successfully held the launch ceremony for the “2026 LLF Friends (Lotus Lantern Festival Friends)” on April 3 at Jogyesa Temple in Seoul.

The “2026 LLF Friends” consists of 50 participants from 28 countries, selected to enhance cultural diversity and international exchange.

Supporters from various cultural backgrounds are expected to share the value of the Lotus Lantern Festival through their own perspectives and languages, contributing to its global outreach.

Following the launch ceremony, the group will carry out activities for about two months, leading up to Buddha’s Birthday on May 24.

Their roles include participating in major festival events, providing interpretation services for international visitors, and creating and promoting content on social media.

An official from the committee said, “The Lotus Lantern Festival has become a cultural heritage enjoyed by people around the world.”

They added, “Through the LLF Friends program, we aim to globally expand the value and appeal of traditional Korean culture and create meaningful opportunities for international cultural exchange.”
