Choo Mi-ae, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been confirmed as the party’s candidate for the Gyeonggi Province governor election after securing more than 50% of the vote in the final primary.
The result was based on a combined tally of 50% party member votes and 50% public opinion polling among residents in the Gyeonggi region. As in the preliminary primary, detailed vote counts and overall rankings of candidates were not disclosed.
Incumbent Governor Kim Dong-yeon and lawmaker Han Jun-ho were eliminated from the race.
According to the party’s central election committee, the final primary result was officially announced at around 6:20 p.m. on April 7. Voting for the primary took place from April 5 to 4 p.m. on April 7.
The committee explained that the final primary was conducted by equally combining votes from party members in the Gyeonggi region and public opinion surveys. Surveys targeting both party members and residents were carried out on April 5 and 6, followed by party member voting on the final day.
Choo secured more than half of the total votes, earning her the party’s nomination. However, the committee did not release specific figures or rankings for each candidate, maintaining the same policy as in the preliminary round.
