Actress Yum Hye-ran recently opened up about a memorable and humorous exchange with director Park Chan-wook during an appearance on the show You Quiz on the Block.

In a preview clip released ahead of the broadcast, Yum revealed that she once received a message from an unknown number while filming another project—only to discover it was from Park. “It was a message cheering me on for my first shoot,” she said, recalling that she was so surprised she immediately stood up and replied.

However, what followed became a dilemma. Yum explained that although she wanted to continue the conversation with someone she deeply respects, she hesitated out of concern that it might take up too much of his time.

“In the end, I said, ‘Thank you so much. Please don’t reply,’” she shared, drawing laughter from viewers.

Yum also reflected on her personal life through her acting roles. She said she relates to the character Geum-myeong from When Life Gives You Tangerines, describing herself as someone who struggles to express affection verbally and often regrets things after acting.

Her comments about her mother particularly resonated with audiences. “My mother had so much, but I don’t think she was ever recognized or praised,” Yum said. “It’s unfortunate that she wasn’t fully appreciated in her time.”

Meanwhile, Yum’s new film My Name Is is set to premiere in theaters nationwide on April 15. The film tells the story of an 18-year-old boy, Young-ok, who wants to change his old-fashioned name, and his mother, Jung-soon, who insists on keeping it.
