Stage setup is underway at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul ahead of BTS’s full-group comeback concert.

The South Korean government will raise the terrorism alert level in central Seoul ahead of BTS’s highly anticipated comeback concert, citing potential risks tied to large gatherings amid global instability.

Authorities announced that from midnight on March 19 to midnight on March 21, the alert level in Seoul’s Jongno and Jung districts will be elevated from “attention” to “caution,” the second level in a four-tier system that also includes “alert” and “severe.”

“The government cannot rule out the possibility of terrorist threats targeting large-scale events such as the BTS concert, given the recent unstable international situation,” officials said. “We are taking preemptive measures to ensure public safety.”

The concert is scheduled to take place at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21 and is expected to draw massive crowds as the group reunites for a full-member performance.

With the alert level raised, authorities will strengthen surveillance and patrols around major event venues and crowded public facilities. Security agencies will also enhance coordination to enable rapid response in case of emergencies.

Officials emphasized that all relevant agencies will operate under a unified response system throughout the event period.

“We will maintain a thorough state of preparedness to respond swiftly and without gaps to any situation, ensuring the successful and safe hosting of the event,” the government said.

The move reflects heightened vigilance as South Korea prepares for one of the largest public gatherings in recent years.
