Hyundai Motor Group and Nvidia are strengthening their partnership in autonomous driving and AI-based mobility, accelerating collaboration that began after a high-profile meeting between Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang last year.

The companies announced on March 17 that they will expand strategic cooperation in future mobility, including joint development of next-generation autonomous driving solutions and broader collaboration in AI-driven ecosystems.

As part of the partnership, Hyundai and Kia plan to apply Nvidia’s Level 2+ autonomous driving technology to selected software-defined vehicle (SDV) models. The collaboration is expected to expand over time to include Level 4 robotaxi services.

The two sides aim to enhance robotaxi capabilities through Motional, Hyundai Motor Group’s U.S.-based autonomous driving joint venture, while improving competitiveness in mobility services.

Hyundai Motor Group will adopt Nvidia’s “Drive Hyperion” platform, an integrated architecture that combines CPUs, GPUs, sensors and cameras into a unified system. The platform is designed to support scalable autonomous driving from Level 2 to Level 4.

By integrating its vehicle development expertise with Nvidia’s AI and computing technologies, Hyundai aims to build a proprietary autonomous driving architecture optimized for SDVs.

The partnership is also expected to create significant synergies in AI development. Hyundai plans to establish a data-driven ecosystem that collects visual, language and behavioral data, feeding it into continuous AI training, performance improvement and real-world vehicle deployment.

In the long term, the company aims to develop a system in which high-performance AI can independently gather, learn from and structure real-world driving data, further enhancing its autonomous driving capabilities.

Hyundai’s broader goal is to secure world-class autonomous driving technology in-house while leveraging partnerships with global tech leaders.

Kim Heung-soo, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Global Strategy Office, said the expanded partnership with Nvidia will serve as “a key momentum to realize safe and reliable autonomous driving technologies.”

Rishi Dhall, vice president of Nvidia’s automotive division, added that combining Hyundai’s engineering expertise with Nvidia’s AI capabilities will enable the development of intelligent and safe autonomous systems, from advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to robotaxis.
