The People Power Party (PPP) leadership has postponed the reappointment of eight spokespersons, including media spokesperson Park Min-young, amid growing internal calls for party reform.

According to party officials on March 16, the agenda to reappoint the spokesperson group was not submitted during a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly. While many council members supported moving forward, some raised concerns over Park’s reappointment, leading to the delay.

Senior spokesperson Park Sung-hoon told reporters, “The agenda for reappointing the spokesperson group, including Park Min-young, was not submitted to the Supreme Council,” adding that party leader Jang Dong-hyuk decided more preparation was needed after hearing various opinions.

The eight spokespersons—including Kim Hyo-eun, Lee Chung-hyung, Cho Yong-sul, Kim Ki-heung, Park Min-young, Son Soo-jo, Lee Jae-neung and Lee Jun-woo—had been appointed for a six-month term starting September 15 last year, which expired on March 14.

Following the party’s declaration to distance itself from former President Yoon Suk Yeol, reformist factions and supporters of Han Dong-hoon have been calling for sweeping personnel changes. Some within the party argued that reappointing Park could signal resistance to the so-called “break with Yoon” stance.

The move is also being interpreted as giving Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon room to reconsider entering the primary race. Oh has refused to register as a candidate, citing the need for party reform, and the leadership’s decision is seen by some as providing him with justification and time to decide.

A PPP official said, “Reappointments are unlikely to proceed this week. They may come after Oh registers as a candidate,” adding that the leadership needs to create conditions that would encourage his participation.

Meanwhile, strong supporters of Jang have begun mobilizing. A conservative YouTuber group held a rally outside the PPP headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, with participants chanting slogans such as “Party members chose Jang Dong-hyuk” and “We are Jang Dong-hyuk.”

Supreme Council member Kim Min-soo also voiced support on Facebook, saying, “Has there ever been a time in PPP history when party members took to the streets to defend the party leader? Let’s unite behind Jang and win the local elections.”
