The Democratic Party of Korea said Friday it would closely cooperate with the government in response to a U.S. court ruling that found the Donald Trump administration’s reciprocal tariff policy unlawful.
Park Soo-hyun, senior spokesperson of the Democratic Party, made the remarks in a written briefing, referring to the government’s position that it would review the matter “in a direction that best serves the national interest.”
“The Democratic Party will respect the government’s stance and work closely with it under the principles of national interest-centered and practical diplomacy,” Park said.
He stressed that safeguarding the competitiveness of Korean companies and industries should transcend partisan lines.
“There is no division between the ruling and opposition parties when it comes to protecting the competitiveness of our businesses and industries,” Park said, urging the opposition to focus solely on the people and the national interest.
He added that the party would play a responsible role to ensure that the National Assembly and the government act as “one team” so that Korean companies and industries can respond to the situation without disruption.
