The family revenge drama The Journey to Gyeong-ju has been officially invited to the competition section of the Florence Korean Film Festival, its distributor Lotte Entertainment announced on Jan. 20.
The film will screen in the festival’s competitive “Korean Horizons” section at the 24th edition of the event, which runs from March 19 to 28 in Florence, Italy.
Scheduled for release later this year, The Journey to Gyeong-ju follows four women who set out on a journey of revenge after their youngest daughter fails to return from a school trip. The film is directed by Kim Mi-jo and stars Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam and Lee Yeon.
Explaining the selection, Jang Eun-young, vice chair of the Florence Korean Film Festival, said the film breaks away from conventional revenge narratives by portraying grief and anger over the loss of a loved one with sharp humor, leaving a deep and lasting impression. She added that director Kim’s distinctive approach gradually reveals hidden family conflicts, creating a deeply personal and immersive cinematic experience.
Meanwhile, the road movie Florence, starring Kim Min-jong, has also been invited to the festival’s Special Screening section. According to the film’s producers and investor K-Fandom, its official festival screening will take place on March 23, followed by a post-screening Q&A session with the audience. An additional official event with local viewers is scheduled for the following day.
The Florence Korean Film Festival showcases a wide range of Korean films to Italian audiences and serves as a cultural bridge promoting exchange between Korea and Italy.
