The Korean Glaucoma Society has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Glaucoma Society to enhance academic collaboration and strengthen its global research network, the society said on Dec. 31.

The agreement was signed on Dec. 19 during a ceremony held via Zoom. Participants included Lee Eun-ji, secretary general of the Korean Glaucoma Society from Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Luis Pinto, professor at the University of Lisbon and president-elect of the European Glaucoma Society.

Under the agreement, the Korean Glaucoma Society will host a symposium at the European Glaucoma Society’s annual congress in June next year in Brussels, Belgium. In addition, a jointly organized session by the two societies will be held at the Korean Glaucoma Society’s annual meeting in November.

The two organizations also agreed to place reciprocal links on their official websites to allow members easier access to each other’s research trends and academic activities. They further pledged to actively promote research collaboration through exchange visits by young medical professionals.

Kim Tae-woo, president of the Korean Glaucoma Society, said the partnership would serve as an important opportunity to showcase the excellence of Korean glaucoma research on the international stage and to strengthen global academic ties. He added that joint symposia and sessions would facilitate the sharing of the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies while providing young researchers with broader international networking opportunities.

With more than 40 years of history, the Korean Glaucoma Society is a leading academic organization specializing in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. Through active research and international exchanges, it has gained global recognition and established itself as a prominent player in the field.
