Actor Ahn Bo-hyun is expanding his romance portfolio as the lead of tvN’s first romantic comedy of the season, Spring Fever.
An online production presentation for tvN’s new Monday–Tuesday drama Spring Fever was held on Dec. 29, attended by director Park Won-guk and actors Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Joo-bin.
Spring Fever follows teacher Yoon Bom (Lee Joo-bin) and the enigmatic Seon Jae-gyu (Ahn Bo-hyun), whose straight-shooting devotion sparks a playful, fast-paced romance. The series teases an unexpected emotional connection between two guarded individuals, billed as a “springtime uninvited-guest romance.”
Director Park said the script’s appeal lay in its fresh approach. “It felt like it was dismantling familiar drama formulas,” he said, adding that after the strong reception to his previous work Marry My Husband, his goal this time was “to receive even greater love.” He emphasized that the contrast between Ahn and Lee is central to the show’s rhythm.
Ahn plays Seon Jae-gyu, a suspicious-looking local who is actually a sincere romantic at heart. Hailing from Busan, Ahn takes on dialect acting for the first time. “I’d always wanted to use dialect as a secret weapon,” he said. “This role felt different from anything I’ve done, and I felt this was something only I could pull off.”
Lee portrays Yoon Bom, a promising Seoul-based teacher who relocates to a provincial high school after a traumatic incident and withdraws from the world. “She’s a three-dimensional character who can completely unravel,” Lee said, noting the role’s wide emotional range. She added that she practiced extensively to perfect writing on a chalkboard for authenticity.
Both the director and cast highlighted the chemistry between the leads. Park praised Ahn’s comedic instincts and physicality, while Lee joked that Ahn’s physique was “almost superhuman.” Ahn, in turn, pointed to the banter between a Busan man and a Seoul woman—complete with dialect-driven back-and-forth—as a key draw.
Spring Fever premieres on Jan. 5 at 8:50 p.m. on tvN.
