Lee pledges continued support for Muan victims’ families

Lee Jae-myung on Monday pledged sustained and comprehensive support for bereaved families of the Jeju Air disaster at Muan Airport, marking the first anniversary of the tragedy.

In a memorial message posted on Facebook, Lee expressed deep condolences, saying no words could fully console the families, but offering a sincere apology as president responsible for protecting the lives and safety of the people.

Lee said the government would prioritize helping families return to their daily lives, providing uninterrupted and long-term assistance across psychological care, medical treatment, legal aid and livelihood support.

He also vowed to strengthen the independence and expertise of the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board, stressing that authorities would make every effort to identify the causes of the passenger aircraft disaster.

“The government will ensure that those who must be held accountable are clearly held responsible, that even small risks are never ignored, and that the country becomes a place where everyone is safe,” Lee said. “Preventing such a tragedy from ever happening again is the minimum duty we owe to the victims.”

He concluded by offering prayers for the victims and extending his deepest sympathies to their families, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to honoring their memory through concrete action.
