Broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo, a former announcer at Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), has won his first Grand Prize at the KBS Entertainment Awards—an achievement that comes 20 years after his debut.
Jeon was named the top winner at the 2025 KBS Entertainment Awards, held on Dec. 21 at KBS Public Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. In his acceptance speech, he said, “Twenty years ago around this time, I stood in front of KBS headquarters and vowed that I would become part of KBS. To receive such a big award here after 20 years feels unreal.”
“I worked hard to become a KBS announcer, and this is where I learned entertainment,” he added. “I will never forget my gratitude, and as a son of KBS, I will work even harder next year.”
Jeon joined KBS as an announcer in 2006 and rose to prominence through programs such as Star Golden Bell and Qualifications of Men. After leaving KBS in 2012 to work as a freelancer, he became a mainstay on rival networks, particularly MBC, where he won three entertainment grand prizes. This marks his first Grand Prize from KBS.
This year, Jeon hosted KBS programs including Boss in the Mirror and Crazy Rich Korean. “I didn’t think I played such a big role, yet I was given this incredible award,” he said, joking that the shows’ cast had “set the table and even fed me.”
He also spoke candidly about personal hardships. “These days have been tough for me personally. My father has been ill, and I’ve been going back and forth to the hospital,” Jeon said. “Making others laugh while carrying personal pain is the hardest part of being an entertainer.” He added that he hopes to become “a better person who can share positive energy,” rather than focusing solely on laughter.
Other nominees for this year’s Grand Prize included Kim Sook, Kim Jong-min, Lee Chan-won, Park Bo-gum, Kim Young-hee, and Boom, all of whom received the Entertainer of the Year award. The Viewer’s Choice Program Award, determined by live text voting, went to Men Who Do Housework.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was posthumously presented to the late Jeon Yoo-sung. Presenter Lee Kyung-kyu paid tribute, saying the veteran comedian laid the foundation for younger generations, as tribute performances and memorial videos followed. Producer Special Award recipient Nam Hee-seok also expressed gratitude, calling Jeon Yoo-sung his “great teacher.”
The ceremony was hosted by Lee Min-jung, Moon Se-yoon, and Lee Chan-won, with presenters from across entertainment adding to the night’s significance.
