President Lee Jae-myung said Sunday that the government would “do everything possible” to eradicate international organized crimes, including online scams and voice phishing.

Lee made the remarks on X (formerly Twitter) while sharing a news report that South Korean police rescued one citizen who had been detained at a scam compound near the Cambodia border and arrested 26 suspects.

“Our police safely rescued a South Korean citizen who had been held at a scam crime complex along the Cambodia–Vietnam border and apprehended multiple members of international criminal organizations,” Lee wrote. “I extend my deepest gratitude to the officers who completed their mission under dangerous and harsh conditions in a foreign land.”

He added that the government would further strengthen cooperation with law enforcement agencies across countries to root out international organized crime, including online scams and voice phishing. “From tracking and investigation to arrest and repatriation, we will do everything we can at every stage,” he said.

According to police, the Korea-dedicated task force—jointly staffed by South Korean and Cambodian officers—arrested 26 South Korean nationals engaged in phishing crimes and rescued a man in his 20s on Dec. 18 at a crime complex in Mondulkiri, about 300 kilometers from Phnom Penh.
