Actor Jung Woo-sung is set to return to acting in his first OTT project following last year’s controversy surrounding his private life and his subsequent marriage.

Jung will appear in the Disney+ original series Made in Korea, which premieres on December 24, portraying prosecutor Jang Geon-young, a relentless investigator who pursues Baek Gi-tae, played by Hyun Bin. At a production presentation held on December 15 at the Grand InterContinental Parnas in Seoul’s Gangnam district, Jung declined to elaborate on personal changes since his last public appearance.

“Since this is a gathering of many actors who came together for Made in Korea, I ask for your understanding that I cannot go into detail about personal changes or reflections,” Jung said, adding that he hoped the series would be enjoyed by a wide audience.

Set in South Korea during the turbulent 1970s—a time when chaos and opportunity coexisted—Made in Korea follows Baek Gi-tae’s rise toward the pinnacle of wealth and power and his confrontation with prosecutor Jang Geon-young, who relentlessly tracks him as they become entangled in major events that defined the era.

Jung said the fictional nature of the story gave him confidence as an actor. “Because it is entirely imaginary, it actually gave me courage in leading the narrative,” he said. “That imagination became the joy of the work. Everyone on set shared a strong desire to do well, and the atmosphere was extremely intense.” He described his character as “a stubborn man” who is determined to carry out his mission to the end within his own professional code.

The series is also drawing attention as the first OTT project by director Woo Min-ho, known for films such as Inside Men, The Drug King and The Man Standing Next. Woo said that while the six-episode format required a large volume of shooting, it allowed for greater focus and selectivity than film. “Viewers may feel that the era of upheaval and confusion depicted in the series is not very different from today,” he said, adding that comparing the past and present would be part of the show’s appeal.

The star-studded cast, including Hyun Bin, has further fueled interest. Hyun Bin said he was pleased to reach global audiences through an OTT platform and noted that his trust in director Woo had grown through their previous collaboration on Harbin. “He has an exceptional ability to draw out new sides of actors, which is a great joy for us,” Hyun said.
