The presidential office said Monday that South Korea has signed a Framework Agreement with the Peruvian government to supply ground combat equipment for the Peruvian Army, in what is estimated to be a deal approaching 2 trillion won.

According to the office, Peru plans to procure a total of 195 units, including 54 K2 main battle tanks and 141 wheeled armored vehicles. The program will be carried out through collaboration between South Korean defense companies and Peru’s state-run defense enterprise.

A senior presidential official underscored the significance of the agreement, noting that it “sets a clear milestone for concluding the implementation contract by next year,” and described the projected export volume as “the largest ground-equipment defense deal in the region.”

If the implementation contract is finalized next year as expected, the K2 tank will make its first entry into Latin America—extending its export footprint beyond Europe, the presidential office added.

President Lee Jae-myung said he hopes the agreement will “serve as an opportunity to elevate bilateral defense and defense-industry cooperation to a new level,” adding that Peru’s decision to select Korean defense systems for both strategic enhancement and industrial development “should lead the two countries to build a mutually beneficial model of defense collaboration.”
