Comedian Park Na-rae has announced she will halt all broadcasting activities as a gesture of self-reflection following allegations that she mistreated a former manager and engaged in unauthorized medical procedures.
Park wrote on her social media account on December 8 that she had “decided to suspend all broadcasting activities until everything is clearly resolved.” She added, “I was finally able to meet with my former manager yesterday, and we were able to clear up misunderstandings and mistrust. I still believe all of this stems from my own faults, and I am deeply reflecting. I sincerely apologize once again to everyone who has trusted and supported me.”
Immediately after her announcement, programs in which Park had been appearing began confirming her departure. The production team of MBC’s I Live Alone said in a statement that, given the seriousness of the situation and Park’s intention to suspend her activities, she would no longer appear on the show. The team behind Where Is My Home? also stated they would suspend her appearances and edit out as much of the pre-recorded material as possible.
MBC ultimately decided to cancel production of its upcoming variety show I’m Excited Too, which was slated to air in January. The travel-themed program featuring Park Na-rae, Jang Do-yeon, Shin Gi-ru, and Heo Anna had already completed portions of filming. tvN’s Amazing Saturday likewise announced that Park will not participate in future recordings.
Park debuted in 2006 as part of KBS’s 21st class of comedians. She rose to mainstream popularity through I Live Alone and Where Is My Home?, eventually winning the Grand Prize at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards.
