Vice Foreign Minister Park Yun-joo, currently visiting the United States for follow-up discussions on the “fact sheet” adopted at the Korea–U.S. summit, met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker to discuss implementation of summit agreements, coordination on North Korea, and regional and global developments.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Park met Hooker on December 2 (local time) in Washington.
Park said the two sides “built a shared understanding on the direction of implementation of the fact sheet,” urging Hooker to help ensure “concrete and visible results” through the activation of working-level consultative bodies across various sectors, drawing on her long-standing expertise in the bilateral relationship.
Hooker responded that the two successful summits held this year had solidified the Korea–U.S. relationship “more firmly than ever,” adding that she would ensure faithful follow-up implementation.
Park also noted that on December 1, the U.S. Department of Commerce had announced tariff-reduction measures as part of efforts to fulfill the tariff agreement, asking that Washington continue to press relevant agencies so that necessary steps—such as publication in the Federal Register—proceed without delay.
The two vice ministers also exchanged views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and reaffirmed continued coordination and communication on North Korea policy, including denuclearization and encouraging Pyongyang's return to meaningful dialogue. They further discussed the ongoing situation in Ukraine and U.S. efforts toward bringing an end to the war.
A Foreign Ministry official said the meeting took place about 50 days after the two vice ministers last held strategic talks in Seoul, adding that both sides agreed to maintain close communication on follow-up measures from the summit and on major regional and global issues.
