The presidential office said Wednesday that it has issued a stern warning to Kim Nam-kook, the secretary for digital communications, over what it described as the inappropriate conveyance of inaccurate information.
In a notice to the presidential press corps, the office stated, “We inform you that the staff member who delivered inaccurate information in an inappropriate manner has received a stern warning as part of maintaining public-sector discipline.”
The announcement came after reporters captured a Telegram exchange on Tuesday between Moon Jin-seok, deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party, and Kim. In the message, Moon asked Kim to recommend a specific individual for the presidency of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA).
According to the captured messages, Moon wrote, “If I recommend him, Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik will oppose it, so please recommend him for me.” Kim responded, “Yes, hyung. I’ll recommend him to Hoon-sik hyung and Hyun-ji nuna.”
