President Lee Jae-myung will participate on December 3 in the “Citizens’ March for Clearing and Ending Sedition and External Threats, and for Social Reform,” an event commemorating the first anniversary of the December 3 martial-law crisis, the presidential office said Tuesday.
To mark the occasion, President Lee will deliver a special national address titled “One Year of the Revolution of Light” on Monday morning, followed by a press conference with more than 80 foreign correspondents. He will also attend a luncheon with the heads of the five branches of government before joining the citizens’ march — four major public events scheduled for the day.
Presidential Chief of Public Communication Lee Kyu-yeon said in a briefing on November 30 that the president intended to keep the schedule “calm but meaningful” in marking the first anniversary of what the administration calls the “Revolution of Light.”
The special address, he noted, will honor “the Korean people who, with voices raised against the muzzle of a gun, turned a moment of extreme turmoil into peace.”
Regarding the foreign press conference — titled “One Year of Restored Democracy” — the presidential office said President Lee will reaffirm Korea’s recovery of democratic norms to the international community and extend a message of national unity.
