Kim Byung-ki, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DP), said on November 25 that his party will introduce the “Special Act on U.S. Investment” within the week, aiming to expand the diplomatic achievements of the Lee Jae-myung administration and ensure smooth follow-up measures.

Speaking at a DP policy meeting, Kim said, “We will submit the U.S. investment special act this week and review it thoroughly to ensure it benefits the national economy. The Democratic Party and the Lee Jae-myung administration will remain united to advance these achievements without wavering.”

Kim commented on the inaugural meeting of the committee tasked with expanding the outcomes of the APEC summit in Gyeongju and supporting follow-up measures to the U.S.–Korea tariff agreement. “The Gyeongju APEC summit delivered economic gains, investment attraction, enhanced national prestige and regional development,” he said. “The U.S.–Korea tariff negotiations also produced meaningful results, including tariff adjustments and strategic cooperation. Now we must translate these achievements into tangible benefits for the public and businesses.”

Kim stressed that the party will push to pass the national budget and key livelihood bills on schedule. “There are calls to indiscriminately cut essential budgets—especially for livelihoods, the future and artificial intelligence. Funding to support local economies, small businesses and young people cannot be reduced,” he said. “As the governing party, we will work to ensure the budget is restored to its proper place.”

He said the DP aims to finalize the Budget Committee vote by November 28 and pass the budget bill at the December 2 plenary session. “We will also table major livelihood bills at the November 27 plenary session. If the ruling and opposition parties come together, it would be the greatest year-end gift to the people.”

Kim concluded by thanking the public for their support of the administration’s diplomatic achievements. “Thanks to the trust and support of our people, the Lee Jae-myung administration succeeded on the diplomatic stage. As the 2028 G20 chair country, Korea now carries greater responsibility. The Democratic Party will do its utmost to ensure Korea leads a prosperous global order.”
