Singer-songwriter Kim Dong-ryul wrapped up his seven-day concert series “A Walk,” completing a week-long musical journey shared with 70,000 fans and reaffirming his reputation for delivering some of Korea’s most meticulously crafted live performances.

Held from November 8 to 10 and 13 to 16 at Seoul’s KSPO Dome, the seven shows sold out instantly, surpassing the 60,000 seats filled during his 2023 solo concert “Melody”—a fresh testament to Kim’s enduring ticket power.

The production lived up to its billing as a “festival of light and sound.” Led by conductor Lee Ji-won, a 24-piece orchestra, a seven-member band, a six-member brass section, an eight-member chorus, and a dance ensemble—about 60 performers in total—filled the stage. The rich, organic textures of live instrumentation transformed the dome into an intimate music theater.

Kim opened with “To Say I Love You” and “Should I Say I Love You Again,” asking fans to refrain from mobile phone filming: “Lighting is crucial to my concerts.” The 70,000 attendees responded with disciplined, immersive listening, allowing the hall to become a space focused solely on music and light.

Kim brought laughter to the crowd with his trademark wit: “I used to be a World Cup singer, but since I’m nearing 60, I shortened the four-year cycle to two.” He also offered heartfelt thanks to fans who have supported him for three decades.

The concert featured a newly arranged version of “Beside You,” a song he once gifted to BoA, performed live for the first time. During “Drunken Truth,” a full-house chorus from all 70,000 attendees filled the dome. Bandoneon player Ko Sang-ji and the Ko Sang-ji Quartet appeared as intermission guests, delivering tango renditions of “Graduation” and “Show,” adding further depth to the performance.

The encore marked the emotional pinnacle. As a tribute to the late Seo Dong-wook—Kim’s former partner from their early group Exhibition—he chose “First Love” and “Etude of Memories.” After the songs, Seo’s photo and the message “Farewell, my beloved friend Dong-wook” appeared on the giant screen, enveloping the venue in quiet, powerful emotion.

Over 150 minutes, Kim Dong-ryul walked alongside his audience through the chapters of his musical life. The flawless execution and overwhelming response once again demonstrated why his concerts are hailed as the gold standard for premium live performances.
