The opposition People Power Party (PPP) is ramping up efforts to appeal to young voters and rebrand itself as a “policy-driven party,” focusing on real estate issues that directly affect the younger generation.

On October 28, the party’s Special Committee on Real Estate held a policy forum with 20- and 30-something participants—mostly students and newlyweds—at the Seoul Youth Center in Mapo District. The session aimed to gather their grievances about the government’s October 15 housing measures and to pledge more realistic alternatives.

PPP leader Jang Dong-hyuk escalated his criticism of the administration’s real estate policy, calling it “a 21st-century version of a Seoul expulsion order.”

“I feel deeply sorry and apologetic,” he said. “This isn’t just a policy failure—it’s a real estate terror that has driven young people and ordinary citizens to the edge of a cliff through legislative overreach and judicial destruction.”

Participants at the event expressed frustration that the government’s plan effectively blocks opportunities for homeownership. One attendee said, “Harsh lending restrictions and the framing of investment as speculation have completely closed the door to home ownership for young people and the working class.” Another added, “This policy kicked away the ladder to the middle class. We need a normalization of the housing market centered on supply, not regulation.”

PPP Policy Chief Kim Do-eup echoed those sentiments, saying, “If supply meets demand in the right areas, housing issues can be solved. We’ll create an environment where private developers can work with confidence to expand housing supply.”

The opposition party plans to capitalize on growing discontent surrounding government officials’ alleged hypocrisy over their own real estate holdings. By focusing on expanding housing supply through the Real Estate Committee, the PPP hopes to regain public trust and win support from the youth demographic most affected by soaring housing costs.
